The Department of Philosophy and Religion at Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure-track nine-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2018.
The requirements for the position are a Ph.D. in Philosophy, an AOS in Philosophy of Race, and an AOC in Ethics (broadly construed).
Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but the position requires a Ph.D. in Philosophy to be awarded by July 1, 2018.
Instructional duties will include teaching in the areas of the AOS and AOC and teaching other philosophy courses as needed.
Faculty members are expected to maintain an active program of scholarship as well as participate in service activities.

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Utah is advertising two academic positions this fall, one tenure-track assistant professor position and a post-doc.
1) The Department of Philosophy seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2018. We are seeking applicants with an AoS in Applied Ethics. “Applied ethics” here is broadly construed to include work in philosophy of science, philosophy of medicine, bioethics, research ethics, socially engaged philosophy of science, philosophy of race, research reproducibility/replicability, or other related areas. Our ideal candidate will become an active member of the School of Medicine’s Division of Medical Ethics and Humanities, a long-standing and important partner of the Department of Philosophy. Teaching load for tenure track faculty at the University of Utah is two courses per semester and includes a mix of undergraduate and graduate teaching. Given teaching needs associated with the Department’s goal of developing a new ‘Philosophy of Science’ major, candidates capable of teaching research ethics are particularly attractive.
2) The Department of Philosophy seeks to fill our department’s Sterling M. McMurrin Postdoctoral Fellowship. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to a campus-wide initiative on “Research Reproducibility.” That may include, but not be limited to, work on scientific reproducibility, the replication crisis, scientific fraud, statistical methodologies, research ethics, or other relevant topics.

1-) Applied Ethics
Candidates at either rank or encouraged to apply if they have areas of specialization (AOSs) in applied ethics (environmental, engineering, biomedical, or business).
Ideal candidates should have a sustained track record of outstanding scholarship, including evidence of the ability to collaborate across disciplines and secure extramural funding.

2-) History of Philosophy
Candidates at either rank or encouraged to apply if they have areas of specialization (AOSs) in the history of philosophy broadly construed: ancient philosophy, modern philosophy,
19th century or non-Western philosophy.
Ideal candidates will have a sustained track record of publishing in prestigious venues and demonstrate the ability to write for a wider, non-academic public.
Candidates should be comfortable teaching broadly in the history of philosophy and be willing to develop online courses. French and German language proficiency is also an asset for candidates.

We will consider a variety of disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and methodological approaches that foreground the relationships among gender, sexualities, ethnicity/race, and class.
