The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies in the College of Arts and Humanities invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Professor of Philosophy.
The home campus for this position will be the Statesboro campus.

Georgia Southern University was founded in 1906 as a school for teaching modern agricultural production techniques and homemaking skills to rural school children.
Its Savannah campus was established in 1935 as Armstrong Junior College for local youth who could not afford to attend college away from home. The Liberty Center in Hinesville
was established in 1998 to serve the military and their families at nearby Fort Stewart, the largest military base east of the Mississippi. All three locations came together in 2018
when Armstrong State University and Georgia Southern University consolidated. The “new” Georgia Southern University preserves a passion for serving its neighbors while preparing

with concentrations in Religious Studies and Law. We embrace the teacher-scholar model and look for faculty who engage students in a cooperative and supportive atmosphere.
We also value connections to the community and work that reaches out to the public. We anticipate this faculty member will work with colleagues from other colleges related to their area
of specialization. The person hired into this position will be expected to contribute actively to the further growth of the program through excellent teaching and research, active recruitment,
and engagement with students.
Position Description.
Reporting to the Department Chair, the Assistant Professor of Philosophy requires teaching three courses per semester, mentoring and supporting students,
publishing in the field, and participating in service responsibilities. The position is an academic, tenure track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate
with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications:
• Earned Ph.D.in Philosophy, or a closely related field, by August 1, 2021.
• Demonstrated specialization in Applied Ethics, with the area of applied ethics open.
• Evidence of effective teaching.
• Evidence of active scholarship and a future research agenda.
• Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
• Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Area of concentration: Open,
• Teaching experience in Applied Ethics,
• Teaching experience in introductory-level undergraduate courses such as Introduction to Philosophy, Introduction to Ethics, and/or Critical Thinking,
• The department has additional teaching needs in Critical Race Theory or related area, Philosophy of Law, Philosophy of Mind, or American Philosophy.
Screening of applications begins December 7, 2020 and continues until the position is filled. The preferred position starting date is August 1, 2021.
