MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. in Philosophy with specialization in value theory (i.e., ethics, philosophy of law, political philosophy).
Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2019
Record of, or demonstrated potential for, effective teaching
Record of, or demonstrated potential for, successful research and publication
Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population
DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Broad training in philosophy
Ability to teach and to supervise students in value theory, specifically ethical theory, applied ethics, medical/bioethics, environmental ethics, social justice,
political philosophy, legal philosophy, aesthetics, philosophy of race/gender, and/or non-western philosophies
Experience in developing new curricula in value theory
Ability to advise pre-law students
Ability to lead the department’s Applied Ethics Forum
Experience with, or demonstrated potential for, effective participation in faculty governance and service to the university and profession
DUTIES:
Teach and develop courses in philosophy at various levels (including general education, lower- and upper-division major/minor, and graduate)
Advise and mentor students in one-on-one supervisory courses, including the supervision of honors and Master’s theses and comprehensive exams
Engage in research leading to presentations and publication, conference organization, and grants
Participate in faculty governance
Participate in service to the department, college, university, profession, and community
