Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Foundations of Physics, Western

The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with members across the Faculties of Science and Arts & Humanities, and other members of the University
community in developing their nomination for the Tier 2 Canada Research program, particularly the proposed program of research.
The successful candidate will be expected to apply for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in the first available competition for which they are eligible.
In accordance with the regulations set for Tier 2 Canada Research Chairs RC
Tier 2 chairs are intended for exceptional emerging scholars (i.e., candidates must have less than 10 years of experience as an active researcher in their field at the time of nomination).
Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree (and where career breaks exist, such as maternity, parental or extended sick leave, clinical training, etc.)
may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 Chair assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process; please contact

The successful candidate will become a leader in the field of Foundations of Physics.
Examples of areas of research include, but are not limited to, cosmology, quantum mechanics, quantum gravity, quantum information, and statistical physics.
Applicants will have a strong research track record in both Physics and Philosophy, with a doctoral degree in at least one of Physics or Philosophy.
Assessment of candidates will be based on research excellence, reflected in number and quality of peer-reviewed
publications, previous success securing research support, and other evidence of impact.

The successful candidate will be expected to secure research funding through the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.
The successful candidate will be appointed to both the Departments of Applied Mathematics and Philosophy, and therefore the ability to teach undergraduate
and graduate students in both departments is essential. The ideal candidate will show evidence of collaboration and effective leadership of a research group.
