The Department of Women’s & Gender Studies at Syracuse University invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Women’s & Gender Studies, appointment to begin August 2018.
The department seeks an interdisciplinary scholar specializing in Feminist Indigenous Studies with a strong record of research and teaching in Women’s and Gender Studies consistent with a tenure-track appointment at a research university. We are especially interested in intersectional research and teaching that takes up questions of gender, race, class, sexuality, disability, sovereignty and other important differences in conversation with transnational, diasporic, and post- and decolonial feminist and indigenous scholarship. Teaching experience on topics in Women’s and Gender Studies preferred.
Interdisciplinary doctoral training strongly preferred (Ph.D. in Women’s and Gender Studies, Indigenous Studies, or other related interdisciplinary field).
The Department of WGS is particularly interested in candidates with areas of specialization that enhance the Department's existing strengths, and who have the potential to strengthen the Department's ties with other departments/programs on campus,
especially Native American and Indigenous Studies (NAIS)
The candidate’s work should complement the mission, goals, and strengths of the WGS Department at Syracuse University, as well as contribute to NAIS. The candidate will be expected to contribute to core curricula in WGS, as well as develop courses in their area of expertise at the undergraduate and graduate levels. WGS is distinguished by its commitment to intersectional, transnational, and interdisciplinary approaches, with an emphasis on issues of race, class, disability, sexuality, indigeneity, and ethnicity as an inherent part of our signature focus on transnational feminist analyses of gender and gender justice.
Candidates must submit a letter of interest, curriculum vita, and one article-length publication or writing sample. Three letters of recommendation are required and will be requested directly from your references through our employment system when you submit your application.
