Rutgers University—Camden is searching for the inaugural holder of the Henry Rutgers Term Chair in Biomedical Ethics. This is a tenured faculty line at the Associate Professor level in the Department of Philosophy and Religion. The successful candidate must have a record of scholarship, teaching, and service sufficient to qualify for a tenured faculty position at the associate professor level at Rutgers University.

The Term Chair in Biomedical Ethics should be an outstanding scholar and teacher grounded in philosophical and ethical theory as well as skilled in its application to a wide range of applied questions involved in medical and healthcare practice, policy, research, and law. While the Term Chair designation is for an initial 5 years with the possibility of renewal, the faculty member will hold a tenured position in the Department of Philosophy and Religion following the expiration of the term. Term Chair duties include providing leadership and coordination across Rutgers University—Camden, the Rutgers University System, and in the South Jersey/Philadelphia metropolitan area on biomedical issues, including areas such as undergraduate biomedical ethics coursework in philosophy, an ethics requirement for the Rutgers University—Camden School of Nursing, the “Ethics and Values” component of the new Rutgers University—Camden undergraduate general education requirements, the biomedical ethics curriculum in the Rutgers University Law School, a possible ethics component for the new program in Health Sciences, as well as potential new collaborations on issues of urban healthcare, and law and policies among units of Rutgers University—Camden and the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. Salary is competitive.
