Denison University, International Studies and Women’s Studies. Visiting Assistant Professor

Jan 07, 2014 Jan 31, 2014

Denison University invites applications for a joint three-year appointment as visiting assistant professor in International Studies and Women’s Studies starting in the Fall of 2014.

The International Studies Program is an interdisciplinary academic program that focuses on global processes associated with political economy and cultural analysis, broadly conceived. The Women's Studies Program is an interdisciplinary academic program examining gender as it is mediated by ethnicity, race, class and sexual identity. International Studies offers a major, Women’s Studies a major and a minor. Both programs offer courses that fulfill requirements in the college’s general education program. This appointment is in both programs and the three/three teaching load will be split evenly between the two.

The successful candidate for this position will teach introductory, intermediate, and advanced courses in both programs. These will include INTL 100, “The Making of the Modern World,” and WMST 101, “Issues in Feminism”. Upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise may, as appropriate, be cross-listed in the two programs and in other relevant departments. The candidate will have advising responsibilities after the first year.

Discipline and area of specialization are open, although candidates should demonstrate interdisciplinary expertise in both research and teaching. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work addresses the intersections of race, gender, and class in local and transnational contexts. Active involvement in the life of the programs is expected. Ph.D. by summer of 2014 is required. Competency in contributing to the college’s new writing program is welcomed.

Please submit a curriculum vitae, a letter of application outlining research and teaching interests and experience, a statement on teaching, a transcript, and three letters of recommendation to:
