University of Richmond, Dept. of Philosophy, Two Tenure-track positions

Oct 09, 2012 Dec 14, 2012

The University of Richmond (UR) is a liberal arts university with a strong research program, and we seek teacher-scholars who can add to our university's mission. This year we are searching for philosophers to fill two tenure-track positions, one in metaphysics or epistemology, broadly construed, and one in the history of philosophy, particularly Kant and 19th century philosophy.

UR has recently developed a strategic plan called The Richmond Promise Richmond. One of the pillars of this plan reads as follows: “The University of Richmond promises … a defining spirit of opportunity and welcome to excellent students, faculty, and staff of all means and backgrounds, sustained through a bold program of financial aid, a dedication to fairness in all that we do, and an authentic culture of inclusivity that seeks and prizes diversity of experience, belief, and thought.” As evidence of the Philosophy Department's commitment to this aim, we note that half of our current faculty come from groups historically under-represented within the profession.

We hope that you will encourage interested individuals who can contribute to this mission and to the diversity of our university community to apply. The jobs are advertised in The Chronicle of Higher Education and in Jobs for Philosophers.

Applications should be submitted at Richmond by November 1.
