The Faculty of Arts at the University of Alberta invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Philosophy, a tenured position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.

The Department consists of 14.7 full-time, continuing faculty members and typically 50 graduate students at the Masters and PhD level. More information about the Department can be found at Philosophy.
The Chair will be someone with a strong sense of collaborative leadership and a clear commitment to continuing to develop the Department's standing within the University, within Canada, and internationally. The Chair will also be expected to participate actively in the Department's teaching, research, and graduate supervision.
The area of specialization is open. Candidates must hold a PhD, together with a distinguished record in university teaching and research. Demonstrated administrative experience will be preferred. The position comes with a comprehensive benefits package, research allowance, and salary (negotiable) commensurate with experience and rank. The appointment is normally for a five-year term and will commence July 1, 2013.
