The Department of Philosophy seeks to appoint a senior philosopher with a distinguished record of scholarship and a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching to apply for the position of department chair. Applicants must have significant administrative experience, be able to provide evidence of administrative effectiveness, and be committed to the mission of the University. AOS/AOC: Open. UNIVERSITY OF PORTLAND, Portland OR. Endowed Chair at the rank of Full Professor with tenure, beginning as early as fall semester 2011. The Department of Philosophy invites applications and nominations for a scholar to serve as the McNerney-Hanson Chair in Ethics. The McNerney-Hanson chair represents the strong commitment of this Catholic university to ethical reasoning and social justice, and to the role they play in the development of character. The holder of this chair is expected to be a professional resource for both the University and the wider community. All candidates must have an established record of exemplary undergraduate teaching; a distinguished record of scholarship; evidence of broad university, professional, and community service; and commitment to the mission of the University. Candidates must be familiar with the ethical positions and arguments of the Catholic church, have a demonstrable interest in social justice and in constructively engaging with Catholic social teaching, and should indicate the nature and extent of this engagement in their letters of application. Candidates should also demonstrate an ability and interest in working in an interdisciplinary manner to enhance the central role that ethical inquiry plays throughout the University curriculum.
