University of Maryland, Gender and Women’s Studies Program, 2 positions

The Gender and Women's Studies Program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) invites applications for two faculty positions:

1) a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin in August 2011. The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience teaching core gender and women's studies courses at the undergraduate level, a sub-specialty in Asian or Asian American Studies, a promising research agenda, and a Ph.D. in Gender/Women's Studies or a closely related interdisciplinary field at the time of appointment. The position is fully funded through the Gender and Women's Studies Program, with the possibility of teaching courses cross-listed with an Asian Studies Program. The teaching load is 3/2. Applicants should submit a letter of interest, CV, graduate transcripts, a writing sample, and sample syllabi and teaching evaluations and should arrange for three letters of reference to be sent separately.

2) a non-tenure track Lecturer position to begin in August 2011. The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. in Gender/Women's Studies or a closely related interdisciplinary field at the time of appointment, demonstrated experience teaching gender and women's studies courses, a specialization in social change/activism, and demonstrated experience managing student learning communities or campus organizations. The teaching load is 6 courses per year, including but not limited to the introductory course and a course on women, gender, and activism. Beyond the teaching, the responsibilities of the position include development and management of a student learning community sponsored by the Gender and Women's Studies Program. This is a great opportunity for those interested in cultivating active learning environments for a diverse community of students engaged in social change/justice activism.
