The Department of Women’s Studies at Texas Woman’s University (Denton campus) invites applications for the positions of Assistant Professor (two positions) and Associate Professor of Women’s Studies (1 position) starting in Fall 2011. Primary responsibilities include teaching graduate seminars in areas of specialization, teaching Introduction to Women’s Studies for the undergraduate core curriculum, and directing graduate student research. Other responsibilities may include advising students, supervising graduate teaching assistants, serving on graduate committees, participating on program and university committees, and actively participating in program development. Scholarly productivity in the form of research publications and presentations is expected.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A Ph.D. with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Women’s Studies and/or extensive research in Women’s Studies is required at the time of appointment. Candidates must demonstrate a clearly defined scholarly research agenda appropriate to the rank. Preferred qualifications include previous experience working with diverse student populations, teaching experience in Women’s Studies, knowledge of multicultural issues, and interest in electronic course delivery. A commitment to the transdisciplinary, multicultural mission of the program is vital.

DEPARTMENTAL INFORMATION:
The Department of Women’s Studies offers a new Ph.D. degree, the M.A. degree, a Graduate Certificate, and an undergraduate minor. Approximately 1,800 undergraduate students per year take courses in the program for University core curriculum credit. Currently there are approximately fifty masters and nine doctoral students enrolled in the graduate program, which offers courses on U.S. women of colors, feminist/womanist theories, epistemologies, feminist pedagogies, qualitative research methods, ecofeminism, spiritual activism, and other topics. Texas Woman's University occupies a notable position in higher education as the nation's largest university primarily for women. Established in 1901, TWU is a doctoral/research-intensive public university which emphasizes the liberal arts and sciences as well as specialized and professional studies in business, nursing, health sciences, and education. Women’s Studies is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, which has thirty percent of TWU's graduate and undergraduate population of over 14,000.
