McGill University, Faculty Research Chair in Global Health and Social Policy

Oct 12, 2008 Dec 19, 2008

The Institute for Health and Social Policy has a unique opening for a Faculty Position and Canada Research Chair at McGill University.

The Institute for Health and Social Policy was created to conduct and support world class research into how social conditions impact on health and to promote the translation of research findings into
policies and programs on national and global scales that change the social conditions under which the worst off live. Involving dozens of researchers from across all faculties at McGill, the Institute is home to a global social policy data center on 180 countries, as well as in depth studies on 5 continents. Institute policy collaborations are taking place with the WHO, UNICEF, and ILO, as well as with Canadian and US policymakers. More information about the Institute

This position is a collaborative appointment between the Institute and the home faculty department best suited for the candidate. The successful candidate will devote half of his/her time to leading
collaborative research and developing policy efforts at the Institute, and the other half will be spent at the home department with a reduced teaching load and a regular tenure or tenure track appointment. The home department will be matched to the applicant’s interests and background.

Because of the strategic role this position will play in the Institute, as well as in its home department, experience conducting empirical and comparative studies and conducting directly policy
relevant research is important. Expertise on Latin America, Africa, and/or Asia as well as OECD countries is strongly preferred.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree in political science, economics, anthropology, social work, public policy, population health, public health, demography, epidemiology,
sociology, geography, social medicine, global environmental change and health, history, philosophy, or other related field. Candidates should have a strong publishing track record in fields examining how social conditions impact on health. Expertise may be in the areas of poverty, gender, child, family, labor, social welfare, environment, or other social policies.

In accordance with the terms for the Canada Research Chairs, McGill University seeks scholars with outstanding records. Further details on
