The Department of Philosophy at Carleton University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to start 1 July 2009. Area of specialization: history of modern philosophy with preference given to candidates with strong interest in 17th century. Areas of competence: philosophy of language and/or philosophical logic and/or metaphysics.

We seek an outstanding scholar with a Ph.D. in Philosophy and a demonstrated potential for excellence in both teaching and research. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in the undergraduate and graduate programs, develop a program of research leading to significant peer-reviewed publications, and contribute effectively to research and leadership in the department. Nominal teaching load is 2+3 (of which one can be a graduate tutorial). Consideration of applications will begin on December 1, 2008. Carleton University is a research-intensive university in Canada's capital and offers a full range of graduate programs, including a Masters in Philosophy and a Ph.D. in Cognitive Science.
