The Department of Philosophy and Religion in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning August 2009.

Area of specialization: applied ethics (especially bioethics, environmental, business, technology). Areas of competence: open. The department particularly welcomes candidates with a pluralistic training in philosophy and a broad interest in the history of philosophy.

The Department of Philosophy and Religion has MA programs in Philosophy and Social Policy, History of Philosophy, and a joint program with the School of International Service in Ethics, Peace, and Global Affairs. Candidates should be able to contribute to at least two programs and contribute significantly to the Department's participation in the undergraduate General Education Program.

Teaching load is two courses a semester. Competitive salary depending on qualifications and experience. Ph.D. and previous teaching experience required.
