I. The name of this organization shall be “Canadian Society Working for Inclusion in Philosophy” (CSWIP).
II. The purpose of the organization:
CSWIP membership is open to philosophers and others with a commitment to the following:
- To support gender groups subject to discrimination or marginalization who are interested in
- philosophy, including cis women, trans women, trans men, nonbinary individuals, and individuals
- with gender queer identities;
- To support the inclusion of these groups within philosophy;
- To foster feminisms in philosophy; and
- To foster philosophy within feminisms.
Presentation at a CSWIP conference is open to everyone who supports the organization’s aims. Presenters need not be CSWIP members, but must register for the conference. The conference committee will set registration fees accordingly, with differential rates being offered to members and non-members. The CSWIP membership year begins in September.
III. There shall be an Executive Committee elected each year at a general meeting held in conjunction with
the annual conference. Members of the Executive Committee include those who hold the following
positions:
- President
- Vice-President Past- President
- Secretary/Treasurer
- Graduate Student Representative(s) Communications Officer
- Co-ordinator, CSWIP at the CPA
Each year, the outgoing President shall issue a call for nominations and recruit a Committee to help form
the new executive. The structure of the Executive Committee should be reviewed from time to time.
IV. This constitution may be amended by a vote taken at the annual general meeting. Proposed
amendments should be posted for discussion at least two months prior to that meeting.
