The Program for the Study of Women and Gender at Smith College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of queer studies broadly defined. The successful candidate will be prepared to offer courses at the intermediate and advanced levels in queer studies, including courses in theory and in topics related to the candidate's field of specialization, and will teach in the Program’s interdisciplinary introductory course.

Candidates should demonstrate research and teaching commitments to understanding the intersection of sexuality with gender, race, and class. Candidates must have prior interdisciplinary teaching experience, including an introductory course in the study of women and gender. A Ph.D. is required by the time of appointment.

Located in Northampton, MA, Smith College is the largest independent women's college in the country and is dedicated to excellence in teaching and research across the liberal arts. A faculty of outstanding scholars interact with students in small classes, as advisors, and through student-faculty research projects. Tenure-track faculty members teach two courses each semester and enjoy a generous sabbatical policy. The Five College Consortium, comprised of Smith, Amherst, Mount Holyoke, and Hampshire Colleges and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, provides a rich intellectual and cultural life. In addition, the Pioneer Valley has the highest concentration of faculty in gender and sexuality studies in the country, providing broad collaborative opportunities and resources such as participation in the new Five College Queer & Sexuality Studies Certificate.
