We are seeking an emerging leader in the field of analytic political philosophy to contribute to research and teaching in legal and political philosophy and in the history of political thought as well as to the development of a Master’s programme in Legal and Political Theory. We are particularly keen to attract a scholar with a commitment to the relevance of political philosophy to public policy issues who will further strengthen a political theory community already including Professor Chris Armstrong, Professor David Owen and Professor Tracy Strong.

Politics and International Relations (PAIR) at the University of Southampton is situated in the School of Social Sciences. Its primary research vehicle is the Centre for Citizenship, Globalization and Governance (directed by Dr Will Jennings) through which PAIR pursues its commitment to problem-driven research and innovation in research methods. PAIR also plays a central role in PublicPolicy@Southampton (directed by Professor Gerry Stoker) and in the recently launched Southampton Ethics Centre.

You will contribute to the teaching activities of PAIR through lectures, tutorials and marking assignments and examination papers; undertake nationally recognised academic research and work with others to seek research funding.

You will have a PhD in Politics and/or IR or relevantly related discipline, a growing and consistent national reputation in Politics/IR, a track record of published research in leading national journals in the discipline and a proven ability to design course units, curriculum development and new teaching approaches.

The post is tenable from 1 September 2014.
