The Department of Philosophy and the Centre for Jewish Studies at the University of Toronto invite applications for the Senator Jerahmiel S. and Carole S. Grafstein Chair in Jewish Philosophy, a tenure-stream position in Jewish Philosophy at the rank of Assistant/Associate or Full Professor. The endowed Chair appointment will begin on July 1, 2014, and is for an initial five-year term, with the possibility of renewal following a favourable review.
The successful candidate will be appointed both to the Department of Philosophy (51%) and to the Centre for Jewish Studies (49%). Candidates must hold a PhD by July 1, 2014, or shortly thereafter, and must demonstrate excellence in, and commitment to, both research and teaching. The Chair holder will be familiar with the Jewish textual canon and its original languages. He or she will teach courses in the Department of Philosophy at the graduate and undergraduate level, and will contribute to the integration of Jewish philosophy into the undergraduate and graduate programs in Jewish Studies.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto is a tri-campus graduate department, consisting of all philosophy faculty appointed to the St. George, Mississauga (UTM), and Scarborough (UTSC) campuses. Graduate teaching and supervision typically take place on the St. George campus.
The Centre for Jewish Studies, within the Faculty of Arts and Science on the St. George campus, has one of the best and most comprehensive Jewish Studies programs in North America and offers courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in numerous disciplines.
