The Department of Women’s Studies at the University of Maryland announces a full-time tenure-track position for an assistant professor specializing in LGBTQ studies. The successful candidate will be able to work across arts and humanities disciplines and have expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• Masculinities Across Racial and/or National Lines
• Critical Race Theory, Queer Theory, Transgender Theory, Posthumanism
• Sexuality in Artistic and Cultural Production

The Women’s Studies Department at the University of Maryland Women's Studies is recognized as one of the leading programs in its field both within the United States and beyond. Our department is in the process of merging with the LGBT Studies Program, and so we anticipate that new faculty will be able to contribute significantly to curricular and program development at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

With ten core faculty, and more than eighty affiliate faculty housed in other departments across the campus, our department embraces many perspectives and methodologies. We have a highly established Ph.D. program and a graduate certificate program. Our current women’s studies undergraduate offerings include a B.A., an undergraduate certificate, and a joint minor in Black Women’s Studies, while LGBT Studies offers an undergraduate certificate and an undergraduate minor. Fields of specialization at the graduate level are: (1) Gender, Race, Racialization, and/or Diaspora Studies; (2) Women’s Movements, Global and Local; (3) Bodies, Genders, Sexualities; (4) Gendered Labor: Households and Communities; (5) Art, Culture, Technologies, and Social Change. Feminist Studies, the oldest and leading journal of interdisciplinary scholarship in our field is housed on our campus. In addition to Feminist Studies, the executive offices of the National Women’s Studies Association are located nearby. The University of Maryland is situated in the greater metropolitan area of Washington, D.C. and has access to an exceptional range of rich cultural, political, and social resources.
