Job Description:

The Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the University of Toronto invites applications for a part-time (75%) position in Philosophy. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream for two-years, beginning July 1, 2023, or shortly thereafter, and ending on June 30, 2025.

Applicants must have earned a PhD in Philosophy or a closely related field by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter. They also must have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level in a degree-granting program, commensurate with experience, including lecture preparation and delivery of innovative course materials, activities, and assessments. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to pedagogical growth including participation in and presentations at education conferences and workshops, publications, and pedagogical choices aligned with scholarship of teaching and learning literature and other scholarly work. Experience teaching large classes is considered an asset. The Department of Philosophy has strong teaching needs in ethics (including applied ethics), introductory logic, and philosophy of mind. We seek candidates whose teaching and research complement and strengthen our existing departmental strengths in Philosophy. Evidence of excellence in teaching and pedagogical growth can be provided through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, the teaching dossier including a teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations submitted as part of the application, as well as strong endorsements from referees of high standing. Candidates are expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment demonstrated through the application materials.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University of Toronto has three campuses, St. George, Scarborough, and Mississauga, each with its own Department of Philosophy offering undergraduate programs. The advertised position is on the downtown St. George campus.
